  • Common Ground Elkhorn, NE

    This facility is a joint venture between the City of Elkhorn and the Elkhorn Public Schools District teaming together to bring a winning center to the community.

  • Drury University - Weiser Gymnasium Renovation Springfield, MO

    B*K is currently working for Drury University to provide the following services in conjunction with the Weiser Gymnasium Renovation: market analysis, focus group and user input, program statement, and operations performance indicator analysis.

  • Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center Atlanta, GA

    The 300,000 SF renovation and addition to Georgia Tech's Campus Recreation Center cost 37.25 million dollars. The 1996 Olympic aquatic venue had challenges to overcome but the results of this state-of-the-art center were award winning.

  • Jim Parsley Community Center Vancouver, WA

    The Jim Parsley Community Center was built by the Vancouver School District and houses several organizations working together to assist families and children. The recreation center offers fitness and wellness programs as well as a free clinic.

  • Medina Recreation Center/High School Medina, OH

    The Medina Recreation Center was a joint project between the Medina City Schools and the City of Medina.

  • Osborn Aquatic Center Corvallis, OR

    The Osborn Aquatic Center is a joint facility between the Corvallis School District and the City of Corvallis. The center includes an outdoor leisure pool, as well as 50-meter indoor competitive pool.

  • University of Missouri Student Recreation Center - Mizzou Aquatics Center Columbia, MO

    The University of Missouri Student Recreation Complex was a $50 million project which included the renovation of a 1905 gymnasium, 1929 field house, 1987 addition and an expansion. In total the Student Recreation Complex is 300,000 square feet with many amenities to include 6 bodies of water equalling 1.6 million gallons.

  • Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center Study Waverly, IA

    Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center also known as “The W” was a joint project between Wartburg College and the City of Waverly.

  • Washburn University Student Recreation Center Topeka, KS

    The mission of the Washburn University Student Recreation and Wellness Center is to enhance the quality of campus life. The Center accomplishes this in a variety of ways.

  • Whitewater Community Aquatic Center Whitewater, WI

    The Whitewater Aquatic Center was a joint effort of the Whitewater Unified School District & the City of Whitewater.

Project Studies

  • Beech Grove Recreation Center Feasibility Study Beech Grove, IN

    B*K provided master planning services and operations assistance for the remodel of an old building on school district property that will be used as a joint recreation and school facility. The project involved joint city and school district planning, project phasing and prioritization, and management needs assessment.

  • Cedar Crest College Allentown, PA

    Ballard*King & Associates provided consulting services for the Cedar Crest College Aquatic Center.

  • Elkhart High School Pool Elkhart, TX

    Ballard*King & Associates provided an operations assessment for the Elkhart High School aquatic facility.

  • Hulsey Wellness Center, Southern Adventist University Collegedale, TN

    The Southern Adventist University Hulsey Wellness Center opened in Feb. 2010. B*K worked with a local architect to determine the programming and operational needs for this addition to the existing student recreation center. Design review of the concept plans was also performed.

  • Kitsap Pool Study Silverdale, WA

    The Central & Northern Kitsap School District hired B*K to conduct an operational audit of their indoor aquatic centers. B*K's scope of services for this project included a market analysis, program assessment, facility assessment, operations analysis and partnerships.

  • Oberlin College Student Recreation Center Oberlin, OH

    The Jesse Philips Physical Education Center, a 115,000 SF facility, is the cornerstone of Oberlin's athletic complex. This facility includes a gymnasium, climbing wall and bouldering cave, pool, weight rooms, 6 racquetball and 9 squash courts. The John W. Heisman Club Field House is linked to Philips and includes a six-lane 200-meter track and four tennis courts. The recreation center also offers memberships to the community.

    Ballard*King and Associates conducted a comprehensive operations audit of the existing student recreation center to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the building’s physical condition, operations policies and marketing efforts. A major focus of the study was to look at specific methods to increase the use by community members. B*K's scope of services for this facility included the following: financial analysis, program assessment, marketing strategy, organization and management planning and policies and procedures review.

  • Rapid City Recreation Center Study Rapid City, SD

    As one option for the development of a community recreation center, B*K analyzed the feasibility of partnering with the school district for a joint high school/recreation center.
    The study included programming, collection of public input, joint use agreements, market analysis, and operating cost and revenue projections.

  • Shaker Heights Recreation/Athletic Needs Study Shaker Heights, OH

    Ballard*King & Associates working in conjunction with a local architectural firm, completed a comprehensive analysis of the recreation/athletic facility needs for the city and school district together. This study involved a considerable amount of joint city school district planning, assessment of existing facilities and programs, determination of future facility and program needs, management planning, presentation of comparable models, recreation trend analysis, and the development of a strategic plan.

  • Slippery Rock University Student Recreation Center Slippery Rock, PA

    The SRU Student Recreation Center is an 82,000 SF facility. The center includes a pool, walking track, climbing wall and fitness center as well as basketball & volleyball courts.

    B*K developed a preliminary operations assessment for a proposed student recreation center providing operating cost and revenue projections. From this early work a larger more complete study was conducted several years later by an architectural firm that resulted in the construction of a new student recreation center.

  • Texas State Technical College Student Center Sweetwater, TX

    Ballard*King and Associates worked with the college on the pre-design planning of a student recreation center that would also serve the citizens of Sweetwater as a public recreation center. This facility opened in the late 90’s.

    B*K's scope of work included: conducting work sessions, pre-design budget analysis, collecting public input, marketing research, developed capital equipment needs, third party design and layout review, development of fees and charges and program development.

  • Vancouver Middle School/Sports Center Feasibility Study Vancouver, WA

    Ballard*King and Associates in conjunction with a local architectural firm, worked on the plans for a new joint middle school and community recreation center complex. B*K conducted a pre-design assessment and evaluation of the existing site (some outdoor recreation amenities were already on site), participated in a three day design seminar with representatives of the school district and the city’s recreation department, and identified key areas of joint use and development for the project.

  • West Des Moines Recreation Center Study West Des Moines, IA

    B*K working with a local architect, conducted a pre-design feasibility study for a new community recreation center that would be combined with a new 9th grade school. This project involved considerable school district and city planning, a definition of required facility needs and expectations from both entities, the development of program spaces, and an estimate of operating expenses and revenues.
